The Rude Awakening Scotland, Edinburgh Monday, June 18, 2007 ------------------------- - Relying on Halliburton and Fannie Mae
at your peril?
- The energies of tomorrow
today,
- When persistence and patience finally pay off - third time's a charm, and plenty more
------------------------- Joel Bowman, reporting from Edinburgh, Scotland
We've been feeling energetic lately. Not the kind of energetic that would see us jump on a treadmill or hike through the Scottish Highlands, mind you. The energy we've been feeling of late is that of a renewable kind. And we prefer to read and write about it rather than expend it personally. If you've missed our columns on ethanol, wind and Byron King's field trip report from Alaska last Friday, we'd urge to check out what's been going on around Rude H.Q. We'll have more in store for you in the coming days with regards to all things energy related but, for now, we'll hand you over to your capable and inimitable Rude readership. Enjoy Part II of the Green Mailbag
----------------------------------- Dear Rude, Mend Your Fuelish Ways Fossil fuels are for facile fools. Of course, we all use them, and have derived great benefits from the availability of oil and coal, dirty as their history has been. But what now? Warring over dwindling resources instead of investing in renewable resources is just bad for everyone's economy, environment, and government (or desire for a lack thereof). I could talk about my solar powered off-grid house, with its hand-milled posts and beams, my veggie-oil car, my biodiesel truck, or the great organic food that comes out of my garden and my local co-op grocery and farmer's markets. But some might think me vain. In reality, the motivation for all of this activity is nothing less than the desire for control. Control over one's destiny, one's quality of air, health, life, and freedom from external control of any kind. Should I have counted on Halliburton to keep my house warm? Or Fannie Mae to slide me into that house and that nice mortgage? You might imagine how little sleep I lose, pondering such questions. My theory is this: a renewable energy infrastructure would benefit any population group by stabilizing one of humanity's greatest needs: the need for an unending supply of energy. This would create affluence and technological development of unprecedented scope. Regards, C.J.D. Grab it Here: The Survival Report -------------------------------------- Dear Rude, It appears that an existing alternative fuel has been forgotten in all the ethanol, bio-fuel, hydrogen hoopla. Compressed natural gas (CNG) powered vehicles are presently in use in both New York and California and in many places in between. As a former west coast utility company employee I have seen delivery trucks, utility company vehicles and school buses running on CNG. The conversion of a standard gasoline engine to dual use (either gasoline or CNG) is about a $3,000 job. A CNG vehicle can go about 250 miles on a CNG fill-up - perfect for UPS, Fed X or USP delivery vehicles and school buses. The biggest "hang-up" is where to fill-up on CNG. The utility that I worked for had a number of CNG stations designed, built and operational in the year 2000. Now, I believe it is Honda, makes a compressor fill-up unit which can be mounted in a homeowners garage, getting its supply of natural gas from the homeowners normal supply. U.S Federal regulations are already in existence covering storage tanks and tank placement on school buses etc. It is a shame to overlook an existing technology which reduces air pollution from auto exhaust by 50% and provides the same engine performance as gasoline, plus, in many instances only requires the flip of a switch and the turn of a valve to use either regular gasoline or CNG. Regards, J.F.N. -------------------------------------- Dear Rude, This is the third time & last time I've sent an email to you about Eden Energy but it never gets a mention. It has already returned many hundreds of percent gains and is just at the beginning of a very exciting & profitable future. It will stand up to any of your scrutiny in it's economics, technology, personnel & management, it is at the forefront of the carbon to hydrgen transition & other interesting fields. As an automotive engineer I noted it's potential & after researching it became an investing. An investor could only dismiss Eden Energy & it's controlled entities at their own peril. I have never been so bullish about any stock in the medium term, it won't disappoint. Regards Graeme Simpson [Thanks for your patience and persistence, Mr. Simpson. While we promise to READ all Rude reader mail, we can't promise that we'll be able to squeeze each and every one of them into a mailbag. Still, as they say, third time's a charm.] -------------------------------------- Dear Rude, I wrote to you in December of 2006 and infomed you that I had rolled a 401K from a bank into a precious metal stock portfolio. The initial amount was $96,000 and I added $45,000 February from my contributions to my new bank 401K. I reported that they had just passed $500,000 at that time. New report - they passed $683,000 last night. I have tried to explain the mechanics of what I am doing to others and only one (1) in almost 7 years have done likewise. He, of course, is ecstatic and will retire in two or so years. Please inform (re-inform) your readers of this as you well know this opportunity may be over in a month or five (5) years. It is a tragedy to see good people loose all or most of their wealth when a few steps can enable them to accumulate and offset the raging destruction of our money and country. Charles L. The full report is right here: Outstanding Investments Penny Gold Report ------------------------------------------- Dear Rude, I keep thinking: I wouldn't mind Greenspan moving the markets with his comments if he were just a retired, private citizen. But he's a Pimco employee. And it "strains credulity" to think that Pimco doesn't time the market based on Greenspan's little talks. There's a lot of money to be made knowing exactly when Alan will either "spook" or "reassure." I know that I could make a ton, if only he were my employee! Just something for investors to think about, since the SEC won't.
